Muay Thai is Life’s State of the Union – A new series examining the status of our sport in the fabric of America
Growing up in South America, there could not be any sort of conversation without a discussion about soccer breaching the subject at some point. Barbers, maids, street vendors, the young businessmen in their perfectly pressed shirts; all of them had something to say about the previous night’s game or their favorite players recent actions on the pitch. Soccer, to almost every nation outside of the United States, is a more than a sport. It is a huge part of their national identity. It is both a passion and an obsession. While a hobby for some and akin to a religion for others, it is a sport that connects to the very soul of any nation that lists it as their national sport. The players are more than just athletes on a field, to both the young and old fan alike, they are Gods. When I was growing up, I remember trembling in front of the TV as my favorite team made a play. I would grasp my shirt, which either contained the colors of my team or the name of my favorite player and would pray as the player struck the ball, asking and willing the ball to reach the back of the net. I remember the extreme elation I would feel after a victory and the heartache that came with a loss. Aside from Soccer, the only sport that brings me the same feelings of elation, heartache, and excitement is Muay Thai. Borrowing a quote from Danny Boyle’s film … Continue reading

International WBC Title now on the line for Harrison vs Greskiewicz at Warriors Cup XIII
So as the title on the photo above reads…”stuff” just got real for the upcoming welterweight tilt between Bad Company UK’s Liam Harrison and Cool Hearts Philadelphia’s Justin Greskiewicz. Now this isn’t to say that it wasn’t going to be a REAL treat to see these two fighters go at it in what will be Harrison’s first foray into the Muay Thai scene on this side of the pond. But now Warriors Cup XII Promoter Chris Tran and the WBC just upped the ante. The battle between these two Muay Thai personalities will now be for the vacant WBC Muay Thai Welterweight International Title. Now, the odds heavily favor the hard-hitting Brit from Bad Company UK, whose recent loss was at the hands of non-other than Muay Thai celebrity Saenchai Sor Kingstar. But that isn’t to say that Justin Greskiewicz, who just lost his recent semi-final bout to Josh Palmer at the Journey Fight Series in Calgary, isn’t coming hungrier and angrier than ever, ready to fight tooth and nail for the belt. Now that the stakes are higher, expect both fighters to come in and fight with a little extra spring in their step and fury in their strikes. It’s going to be a good one! The stage is set for Saturday, July 23rd at the Robert J. Collins Arena in Lincroft, New Jersey. Also on the card is an exciting co-main event featuring Pittsburgh’s Mark Deluca facing off against Philadelphia’s Rami Ibrahim. Other Pro Matchups include: Ognjen Topic … Continue reading

Kem Sitsongpeenong wins Isuzu Tournament, earns Thai Fight spot
Earlier Today…or well Yesterday if you are reading this from Southeast Asia, Kem Sitsongpeenong fought and won his way to the Izuzu Tournament title. Kem’s opponent, Nopparat Keatkhamtorn simply had no answer for Kem as he was repeatedly kept at bay with well-timed teep kicks, thus giving Kem the opportunity of landing punishing body kicks. Kem’s hands also played a factor in the win as he repeatedly threw a lead left hook and low kick combination that consistently found the target. In the 3rd round Kem began opening up with elbows. Halfway through the 3rd Round, Kem landed a beautiful left jabbing elbow that ended the night for Nopparat. As was announced previously, the winner of the Isuzu tournament would receive a spot on the next installment of the popular Thai Fight tournament. In addition to a spot in the tournament, Kem Sitsongpeenong earned himself a fight purse of 1 million baht, which is just shy of $33,000 US dollars. Check out the video of the fight below. The Tournament Final was held at Omnoi Stadium in Bangkok.
