Friday Night Fights – Fight For Rockaway PHOTOS

Our good friend and photographer extraordinaire Bauzen was onsite at this past weekend’s Friday Night Fights event “Fight For Rockaway” to capture all of the exciting Muay Thai action. This Friday Night Fights event was put together to benefit those affected by Hurricane Sandy, particularly those of Rockaway Beach and CROM Martial Arts. Chris Romulo has long been one of the NYC Muay Thai Community’s biggest names and his gym CROM Martial Arts was always a haven for any aspiring fighter and martial artist. Unfortunately, CROM Martial Arts was completely devastated by the storm along with much of Rockaway Beach in Brooklyn. The rain, wind, and water left the gym gutted and flooded. Not one pad, mat, or piece of equipment survived and Chris Romulo and those that called his gym home, were essentially left, if not literally, at least figuratively homeless. Chris is well known for his passion for Muay Thai and his determination and hard working spirit both in and out of the ring, his motto being that “All it takes is heart.”

“Battle at Bally’s II” – Weigh-In Photos

All fighters were on weight for tomorrow night’s “Battle at Bally’s II” event brought to you by Take On Productions. The weigh-in was open to the public at the Bally’s Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City and all fighters looked ready to clash at tomorrow night’s event which will feature 3 Pro Full Muay Thai rules bouts and 2 Amateur Title fights. In addition to the marquee bouts, the event will also feature a stacked amateur under card starring many talented Muay Thai fighters from around the country. All fighters that will compete tomorrow evening at Lion Fight Promotions “Schilling vs Marcus 2″ made their way to Body English at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las, Vegas last night to weigh-in for their respective bouts. All fighters made weight and the weigh in process went smoothly. Lion Fight Photographer Bennie Palmore was on hand to take a few shots of the fighters as they weighed in and as expected we are posting them up for all of you to see. Also, MTiL photographer Galen Okazaki will be ringside tomorrow evening to take shots of all the action and you can be sure to check them out here at Muay Thai is Life. Photos by Bauzen: “Muay Thai at the Mecca” – Muay Thai at Madison Square Garden RESULTS

As the saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words. And nothing I write in this article right now will do Take On Productions and MSG Sports “Muay Thai at the Mecca” any justice. It was truly an amazing event full of electricity and emotion. Every fighter in the ring that night knew what a solid performance meant in the long run. They were part of history. It was the first time a Muay Thai event would ever be held at Madison Square Garden. In front of a sold out crowd of 3000+ fans, the city of New York would once again be making combat sports history. And for Muay Thai fans, fervent and some would say religiously devout to their sport, it was a beautiful moment to see that, for once, our sport…a true traditional martial art built specifically for combat, was on display in its purest form including the traditions of fighters wearing the mongkon, prajoud, and performing the wai kru before the bout. The fights were not contested in a cage, or as part of some MMA event, but all on their own. And while the event did not have the likes of Kevin Ross, Fabio Pinca, Buakaw Pro Pramuk, Saenchai Sor Kingstar, or any other Muay Thai greats you can think of, stepping into the ring that night; It is but a first step in a long journey to bring Muay Thai to the forefront of the combat sports craze here in America.
