- Muay Thai in America Recap: Simon Marcus in top form, Amanda Kelly upsets the “Queen of Muay Thai” and more!
Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to catch the Muay Thai in America event but our friends at Muay Thai Authority including the always incredible Scott Hirano behind the lens were on hand to report the exciting event featuring some of the worlds best fighters. Muay Thai in America “In Honor of the King” took place last night at Raleigh Studios in Playa Vista, CA. In the night’s main event Canadian powerhouse Simon Marcus faced Sadibou Sy of Sweden. Marcus was able to keep his perfect record intact as he improved to 29-0 with a third round knockout. Early on in the fight Sy was using some good ring movement to keep Marcus from walking him down, Sy was also able to connect with some solid punches. In the third round Marcus continued to move forward as he tried to walk Sy down, once in range Marcus connected with a right elbow to the head of Sy that clearly hurt him and Marcus followed with a left elbow that sent Sy down. Sy was unable to get up and the fight was stopped. Marcus is now 6-0 in 2012 and continues to show why he is considered one of the best in the world. Read more…
- Muay Thai Takes Us Back to the Mecca: Muay Thai at the Mecca II + Results
James is the author of Paleo for Fighters Photos by Bauzen When I ask 22-year-old US Muay Thai phenom Jay Matias what he is fighting for, he first tries to remember the exact words of the combatants in the movie Gladiator, seconds before they are raised from the catacomb-like underground hypogeum into battle. As he is remembering, I realize the striking similarities between where we are sitting, in the backstage dressing room at Madison Square Garden, and the setting of that scene. The hallways are narrow and mazelike, utilitarian with painted-over cinder block walls and the buzzing electricity of the heat and ventilation system—a sharp contrast to the grand spectacle that is the main venue, with its geometrically artistic crisscross of ceiling lights, neat rows of cushioned seating, and spotlighted immaculate white ring. As I walk through the hallways, one of the event staff radios to another, “The ring has been vacuumed.” As is the case at every Muay Thai show I have been to, backstage is the most polite place in the world. Egos are bred when people have something to prove, but nowhere to prove it. None of the fighters in the dressing room was holding onto anything to prove—they were about to prove it. After I finish talking to Jay, I make my way down to the ringside press tables. I look out over the crowd and think about how I would characterize it. I find this is hard to do. Instead of the sea of home- and away-team jerseys and raucousness that you might see at a ...
- Lion Fight 7 – Results & Takeaways
By Eric Rivera Lion Fight 7 is most likely going to go down as the event that featured “the right cross heard around the world”. Now that the smoke has cleared after last week’s event and fans have finally wrapped their heads around what happened during the event’s marquee bout, it’s as good a time as any to talk about what we can take away from what was yet another fantastic card put together by Lion Fight Promotions. Walker vs Schilling: The Aftermath Going in to the main event of Lion Fight 7, pretty much everyone in the so-called “Muay Thai Media”, as well as those in the American Muay Thai community as a whole, had Eddie “Showtime” Walker as a huge underdog versus Joe Schilling. After interviewing and getting to know Eddie for our “America At A Glance” article before his fight, I can’t say I wasn’t pulling for Eddie to score an upset. But wanting Eddie to score an upset and thinking he would actually do it are two completely different things. Joe Schilling is an extremely dangerous fighter. He is the type of fighter that comes into a fight not only determined and 100% confident in his abilities, but is also always looking to win in devastating fashion. Coming off a a pair of exciting match ups with Simon Marcus and a victory over Karapet Karapetyan in Bangkok for the WBC Light Heavyweight Title, Joe Schilling was looking even hungrier and more determined to make Walker just another name ...
- On a weekend of Muay Thai action, all the attention will be on the ladies! WCK Muay Thai and Push Kick Promotions – August 18th – RESULTS UPDATE!
UPDATE – RESULTS AT BOTTOM OF POST! During these past Olympic Games, one of the most talked about stories in the media was the success of the U.S. women’s teams compared to the lackluster performance of the men. More often than not, the women of the U.S. national team raised their gold medals high while the men had to make due with silver, bronze, or nothing at all. In almost every sport besides basketball, the U.S. women’s teams prevailed yet the men floundered. The U.S. women’s relay team set a new world record. The U.S Women’s soccer team? Gold. The U.S. Women’s water polo team? Gold. Beach Volleyball? Gold. Gymnastics team finals? Gold. And where were the men’s teams in all of this? In every one of the aforementioned sports, they didn’t even make the podium. Female athletes everywhere have made a statement that anything a man can do, they can do just as well. And let it be known that combat sports are no exception. Using the past Olympic games as an example once again, while the U.S. men’s boxing team failed to advance past the round of 16, the U.S.A’s Clarissa Shields won gold in a sport that had no Olympic women’s division until these games. In Judo, none of the U.S.A.’s men got better than bronze while American Kayla Harrison not only became the first American woman to achieve Olympic Judo gold, she was the first American to ever attain Olympic Judo gold…period. ...
- “Battle at Bally’s II” Results: Quick recap, Yokkao to scout for American talent in November, the ladies shine, and more!
Another Take On Productions event has come and gone, and my wallet, my voice, and my brain are still recovering from what was an action packed weekend in Atlantic City. “Battle at Bally’s II” was nothing short of spectacular as all fighters, both amateur and pro, put it all on the line and showcased that the level of Muay Thai in America continues to rise. In all honesty, every single fight had something worthy of highlighting, however in order to not make this recap too long I will focus on the fights that stood out the most. It is worth noting that the 4 ladies fights of the night showcased that the women can definitely put on a show. Two of the evening’s female bouts, Christina Peteraf vs. Jennie Nedell and Kate Allen vs. Melissa LaTerra, showcased vicious knees from the clinch, one which ended in KO. Coincidentally, both of the victors in the aforementioned fights, Kate Allen and Christina Peteraf, hail from Philadelphia’s Cool Hearts Muay Thai, home of professional east coast Muay Thai standout Justin Greskiewicz. The ladies of the colorful Philadelphia gym whose official motto states “We Fight Sexy”, definitely showcased some sexy Muay Thai technique and even sexier knee strikes. In addition to those two ladies fights, New Jersey’s Prairie Rugilo of Girl Fight MMA once again brought her very vocal and supportive fan base to their feet as she battled it out with a very game Kylie Knoll en route ...
- Push Kick Promotions announces Muay Thai World Standoff “Thailand vs. The Americas” – August 18th, 2012
UPDATE – RESULTS AT END OF POST! Push Kick Promotions is back! And highlighting their return is the announcement of their upcoming event, Muay Thai World Standoff “Thailand vs The Americas”. The event will feature a few of Thailand’s top fighters, such as Aikpracha “The Hitman” Meenayotin, Lerdsila “Mr. Lightning” Chumpairtour, Neungsiam “The Rock” Samphusri, and Rung Reung Chai facing off with a few of America’s top and rising talents. Standing across the ring from these Thai champions will be some of America’s top talents from both the east and west coast of the United States. Facing off with Aikpracha Meenayotin will be none other than top ranked San Francisco based fighter, Ky Hollenbeck. Hollenbeck recently scored an impressive first round knockout over Cyrus Washington at the Legends Muay Thai event in San Francisco and will be looking to score what would be yet another huge win over one of Thailand’s toughest and most aggressive fighters. Meenayotin recently defeated French star Fabio Pinca and continues to remain active in the Thailand fight scene. The Thai will once again be a incredibly stiff test for Hollenbeck, who must be, by now, accustomed to people informing him that his choice of upcoming opponent will be, “the most difficult he has ever faced”. In the other highly anticipated bouts, east coast based fighters Ognjen Topic and Rami Ibrahim will clash with Neungsiam Samphusri and Lerdsila Chumpairtour respectively. Both Topic and Ibrahim are among some of the top east coast fighters in ...
- Hollenbeck stops Washington, Nakamoto remains undefeated – Results from Legends Muay Thai in San Francisco, California
Legends Muay Thai Championship was held in San Francisco, California over the weekend (4/28) and was headlined by the main event featuring Ky Hollenbeck vs. Cyrus Washington and the co-main event starring Miriam Nakamoto vs. Sandra Bastian. In the main event, Hollenbeck wasted absolutely no time showing Muay Thai fans worldwide that his first and only professional loss against Nieky Holzken in November was well behind him. Hollenbeck took under a minute to take out the always gritty Cyrus Washington in devastating fashion. Roughly 50 seconds into the bout Hollenbeck unleashed a spinning back fist that floored Washington immediately and prompted referee Vichai “Rex” Supkitpol to call an end to the bout. Hollenbeck thus earned himself the WMC Intercontinental Title with the quick win and now turns his sights to competing at the Glory World Series Tournament in Sweden on May 26th. In the co-main event of the day, WBC World Champion Miriam Nakamoto faced off with Canada’s Sandra Bastian. Nakamoto spent most of her 2011 season nursing a knee injury and the subsequent surgery but looked in good form against her tough Canadian opponent. Nakamoto picked apart Bastian by waiting for opportunities to pounce with combinations of punches and elbows, utlimately stopping Bastian in Round 3 via TKO stoppage. Bastian fought well trying to put together combinations with both kicks and punches but never quite found her rhythm against the tough American. With the win, Nakamoto picked up yet another title in the form of ...
- Thai Fight Recap – Mulkey loses by decision, Kem blasts through Cornubet, Singhmanee moves on to Thai Fight Finals, and Buakaw returns!
The latest installment of Thai Fight took place yesterday evening in Pattaya, Thailand and needless to say it was yet another exciting event for the promotion that delivered its fair share of devastating knockouts and drama. For U.S. fans, it would be a historic moment as American nakmuay Chaz Mulkey would be the first American to showcase his skill on the Thai promotion. Other exciting match ups would include a bout between Sudsakorn Sor Klinmee and Singhmanee Kaewsamrit that would decide the Thai representative for the upcoming Thai Fight final and the return of Kem Sitsongpeenong to the Thai Fight ring since winning last years 67 kg finals. But perhaps the most talked about story regarding Thai Fight’s trip to the former G.I. playground that is Pattaya, was the drama surrounding Buakaw’s (sans the Por Pramuk surname mind you) return to the ring. Buakaw and his former owners at Por Pramuk Gym were involved in a tug of war that had the executives of Thai Fight caught in the middle. On one hand Thai Fight knew that the star power of Buakaw could only help to boost the interest in their show, but on the other hand Por Pramuk’s gym had secured the backing of Thailand’s boxing authority in stating that Buakaw was still under contract with them and therefore his performance on Thai Fight without their permission would constitute a grievous breach of contract. Rumors soared that Buakaw would serve jail time if he fought on the event. ...
- Liam Harrison stops Andrei Kulebin at “The Main Event in Manchester” – RESULTS
This past weekend, England’s Liam Harrison further cemented himself as one of the worlds top fighters after he dismantled highly respected Andrei Kulebin with vicious leg kicks en route to a TKO win in Rd. 3 of their bout at “The Main Event Manchester” event in the UK. Throughout the fight Kulebin struggled to mount any sort of offense against the Bad Company Gym standout. As Kulebin tried to get his offense started, Harrison would consistently counter with vicious low kicks or attack with a series of combinations that would end with low kicks to the inside and outside of Kulebins legs. Towards the end of round two, it was apparent that Harrison’s kicks were beginning to take their toll on the talented Belarussian. In round 3, Harrison unleashed a barrage of leg kicks for everyone of Kulebin’s attempted attacks and at about 30 seconds into the third round Harrison struck with a quick jab low kick combo that ended the fight as Kulebin limped to his corner seeming to motion to the referee that he could not continue. It was a very impressive performance by Harrison as he made Kulebin look like a far less threat than he truly is. Kulebin has and is considered a top fighter in the world, most recently winning the WKN’s Big 8 Tournament in his home country of Belarus. However, on this night Harrison simply put on a masterful performance to further lay claim that he is the top foreign nakmuay ...
- Photos by Bauzen: “Muay Thai at the Mecca” – Muay Thai at Madison Square Garden RESULTS
As the saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words. And nothing I write in this article right now will do Take On Productions and MSG Sports “Muay Thai at the Mecca” any justice. It was truly an amazing event full of electricity and emotion. Every fighter in the ring that night knew what a solid performance meant in the long run. They were part of history. It was the first time a Muay Thai event would ever be held at Madison Square Garden. In front of a sold out crowd of 3000+ fans, the city of New York would once again be making combat sports history. And for Muay Thai fans, fervent and some would say religiously devout to their sport, it was a beautiful moment to see that, for once, our sport…a true traditional martial art built specifically for combat, was on display in its purest form including the traditions of fighters wearing the mongkon, prajoud, and performing the wai kru before the bout. The fights were not contested in a cage, or as part of some MMA event, but all on their own. And while the event did not have the likes of Kevin Ross, Fabio Pinca, Buakaw Pro Pramuk, Saenchai Sor Kingstar, or any other Muay Thai greats you can think of, stepping into the ring that night; It is but a first step in a long journey to bring Muay Thai to the forefront of the combat sports craze here in ...
- Weekend Results: Greskiewicz snatches a WBC title in the UK, Julie Kitchen retains her title, and Joe Valtellini scores yet another devastating KO
Although there was not much Muay Thai action taking place stateside this weekend, there was enough action going on worldwide to satiate even the most ravenous Muay Thai appetite. The action did kick off stateside on Friday night as NYC’s Friday Night Fights presented an anticipated fight card headlined by an exciting bout between Joe Valtellini and Shawn Yarborough. The hard-hitting Valtellini who has earned his “Bazooka Joe” moniker by knocking out every one of his previous opponents, added yet another KO win to his now perfect 6-0 record by viciously knocking out Yarborough in the first round. Whoever Valtellini’s next opponent may be has more than enough footage of Joe viciously knocking out opponents with both hands and feet to keep them up at night. Bottomline, Bazooka Joe is a nightmarish fighter and any opponent looking to step in the ring with Joe knows they run a big risk of having their consciousness knocked into another dimension. If Valtellini wasn’t on the radar before, he definitely should be now. He is a threat to any fighter at 165-169, no matter where they are from. In the evenings other two professional attractions, New Jersey’s Ognjen Topic once again showcased why he was MTiL’s breakthrough fighter of 2011 when he used his technical striking and ring smarts to outpoint Missouri based MMA fighter, Josh Sampo en route to a unanimous decision win. Pittsburgh’s Marcus Fisher improved his record to 3-2 as he comfortably outpointed New York’s ...
- Weekend Results – Warriors Cup XIV, Journey Fight Series V, and IFS 10
Three solid Muay Thai events took place this weekend across North America, showcasing some of continents rising Muay Thai talent in both the pro and amateur ranks. Two event would talk place almost simultaneously as the Warriors Cup took place in New Jersey and the Journey Fight Series would take place in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. This Warriors Cup unlike the few previous events, was an all amateur affair featuring rising talent from some of the east coast’s top gyms. The Journey Fight Series also had a great lineup featuring many talented amateurs from across Canada as well as a few pro bouts, one of them pitting California’s Daniel Kim against Calgary’s own Sean “Shotgun” McKinnon and the other being a great matchup between “Nasty” Nate Smandych and Luis David Cruz of Mexico. The very talented Jessica Gladstone was scheduled to fight Celeste Saenz of Mexico, but the bout fell through at the last minute when Celeste was not able to enter Canada due to visa issues. Either way the event went off without any further problems and by all accounts was a resounding success for growing Canadian promotion. On Sunday night, the Muay Thai action turned back to the western United States as the IFS put on what would be there 10th show in the Southern California area. The event, titled “Triple Threat” would feature and interesting new concept titled “Pro-1″ rules whereby competitors would engage in one round of boxing, one round of Muay Thai, and ...
- Embree defeats Chunawat in rubber match, Choplin outpoints Mulkey, Marcus stuns Schilling – Battle in the Desert 5 Results + Recap
Usually a knockout or a decisive win is enough to put an end to a discussion. Most of the time when two prizefighters engage in back and forth banter, the end to all the talk is decided in what has happened in the confines of the ring. However, when the doors of The Joint inside the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas were locked, the lights dimmed, and the roar of the crowd a distant memory, many people still had too many questions left unanswered. In Battle of the Desert 5′s highly anticipated main event, Canada’s Simon Marcus put an end to all the pre-fight banter with a series of knockdowns that started with a now controversial Muay Thai dump, a nasty hook, and finally, a teep to Joe Schilling‘s face followed by a vicious elbow. In the first few moments of the bout, Schilling started a bit slower than most of his fans are accustomed too. While every one of Schilling’s strikes was still thrown with every bit of evil and destructive intention we are used to seeing from the LA based fighter, the strikes did little to phase the seemingly calm and collected Toronto native in Simon Marcus. By the middle of the opening round neither fighter had seemed to gain an upper hand or cause much damage, save for a little swelling under Marcus’ eye from a well placed Schilling punch. However, in a scramble that played out in the clinch, Simon executed a ...
- Weekend Results! Adanza and Yamato score stoppage victories in Japan, Lindsay scores KO win at Bangkok Fight Night 12 in Atlanta
As you should have heard by now, pint-sized American Muay Thai sensation, Romie Adanza scored a 2nd round TKO victory over Tomonori Sato in Japan this past weekend to become the WBC Super Flyweight International title holder. Neither fighter had really edged out the other after Round 1, but in Round 2 Adanza landed a quick elbow that opened a deep cut on Tomonori Sato’s forehead, prompting the referee to stop the fight and have the doctors take a look at the Japanese fighters cut. The doctor felt the cut was much to deep to allow the fight to continue and thus Adanza walked away with the W. Although the fight didn’t allow Adanza to showcase his exciting style to the Japanese fans, it nonetheless was a brilliant victory for the exciting American fighter who continues to rise up the ranks internationally. Also on the card, Japanese fighter Tetsuya Yamato snapped a two-fight losing streak with a 1st round knockout victory over former Lumpinee Stadium champion Densiam Lookprabaht. Yamato landed a big left hook that floored the Thai, prompting the referee to give him a standing 8 count. Although Lookprabaht was back on his feet, Yamato wasn’t about to let the Thai off the hook. Yamato rushed the Thai and floored him once again, this time for good as the ref waved off the fight. Here are the results from the rest of the NJKF’s Kick to the Future event: Tetsuya Yamato def. Densiam Lookprabaht by KO ...
- Take On Productions “Battle at the 7 Train XI” RESULTS & PICS!
Muay Thai is Life was once again on hand in NYC to show support to our good friends at Take On Productions as they presented “Battle at the 7 Train XI”. Regardless of the pro main event between Sean Hinds and Turan Hasanov being scrapped because Hasanov was unable to submit his medicals on time, the show went on and the all amateur event once again showcased exceptional talent on par with the growing quality of Muay Thai nationwide. While I was busy capturing video for an upcoming project exclusively for Muay Thai is Life, our good friend Bauzen, who you may know from his contributions to Middleeasy.com and as well as his photos that we occasionally showcase here, was busy once again capturing all the Muay Thai action from the evening. Below are the full results of Take On’s “Battle at the 7 Train XI” and a gallery featuring some of Bauzen’s images from the event. RESULTS: Gio Mercado def. - Klaar Om Te Bossen 3 RESULTS – Holzken takes Washington in two rounds, Pique outpoints Corley.
Considering that today is Christmas Eve and I have enough food to feed a small army waiting for me at the various family gatherings I have to attend before midnight, I am making it a point to make this update as short and as sweet as possible. Michael Chase Corley and Cyrus Washington may not end their year with the big wins they wanted but they definitely went out and made sure people remembered their names by facing two of the top fighters in the world. By all accounts Michael Chase Corley gave Marco Pique everything he could handle in what was the first Full Muay Thai rules bout in Suriname’s history. Marco Pique, who was fighting in front of his home crowd, was no doubt looking to put away the American for the fans, but Corley put up a great fight and made further headway into getting his name known worldwide. The final decision wouldn’t go Corley’s way but he put on a good performance worthy of being considered a worthy representative of America’s growing Muay Thai talent. Nieky Holzken, who has been on a tear as of late, showed no signs of slowing down as he stopped American Cyrus Washington after a cut caused by a knee put a stop to the fight in Round 2. Holzken was in control of the fight throughout but Washington, as always, continues to show no fear in facing the top guys in the world and learning from his experiences ...
- Vuyisile Colossa outpoints Ilya Grad to win the I-1 Grand Slam in Hong Kong
Earlier this week (Monday, December 19th) a few of the fighters from the recent season of The Challenger Muaythai competed at the I-1 Grand Slam in Hong Kong. Two of the reality show’s participants, Vuyisile Colossa and Ilya Grad, would compete in the 4-man tournament scheduled to headline the event. Also featured on the card would be another Challenger Muay Thai participant, Jason Woodham, who would face off against Thailand’s Santichai Or Boonchuay in a superfight. Other fighters of note that would take part in the evenings action were Germany’s Valdet Gashi, Thailand’s M-100 Sitpholek, and Greece’s Pavlos Kaponis, to name a few. Victor and Antonine Pinto were scheduled to fight on the card but were pulled from the event when disagreements arose between I-1 Promoter Kim Ip and the Pinto’s manager (and father), Serge Pinto. In the end, South Africa’s Vuyisile Colossa would come out as the evenings 4-man tournament champion as he bested Greece’s Pavlos Kaponis by TKO (Cut) in the semi-final of the tournament and defeated Israel’s Ilya Grad by unanimous decision to secure the overall win. Ilya Grad earned his way into the finals when he defeated Thailand’s M-100 Sitpholek by unanimous decision in their semi-final bout. In the evenings superfights, Challenger Muaythai star and Englishman, Jason Woodham earned a split decision win over multiple time I-1 Grand Prix champion Santichai Or Boonchuay. Germany’s Valdet Gashi didn’t fare as well, as he lost a unanimous decision to Thailand’s Teelek Fantasy. And in the ...
- Weekend Recap – Thai Fight and Take On Productions “Rising Stars”
It’s been both a blessing and a curse that the sport of Muay Thai has grown so much in the last 2-3 years. A blessing because more and more casual fans are becoming aware of what all of you and myself have known for many years; And that is the fact that Muay Thai is the greatest combat sport mankind has ever created! However, it has also been a curse but those reasons are far more selfish. And that is because I find it harder and harder to balance writing and covering the sheer amount of Muay Thai events going on around the world with something I like to call…life. However, the crack-like addiction I have to this sport will always have me searching for the next fix of Muay Thai action. And my dedication to bringing the world of Muay Thai to the masses will see me continue on in this quest to bring the sport closer to all of you that embrace it as much as I do! With that said, this past weekend graced Muay Thai fans of all calibers with a chance to witness great 8 point striking action. On Friday, Dec. 16th, Muay Thai is Life was once again invited to cover Take On’s latest Muay Thai event in New York City. The “Rising Stars” 155 lb. 8-man tournament event was an all amateur and B-Class amateur affair that showcased some of the best rising talent in the northeast. Having attended many a ...
- Weekend Results – Friday Night Fights & Warriors Cup XIII
This weekend two of the East Coast’s top promotions: Friday Night Fights & Warriors Cup XIII, each put on stellar events showcasing top flight action courtesy of some of North America’s toughest nakmuays. Perhaps the biggest news to come out of the weekend however, was the announcement that Justin Greskiewicz, out of Cool Hearts Muay Thai in Philadelphia, PA. had to drop out of his highly anticipated rematch with Gabriel Varga due to a staph infection on a knee injury that Greskiewicz had sustained during a motorcycle accident a few weeks prior to the event. However, even with the loss of what was for many the main attraction of the evening, Weapons 9 provided fight fans with yet another night of world class Full Muay Thai rules action. But before the action took place at Warriors Cup XIII on Saturday night, Justin Blair and his crew at Friday Night Fight’s treated NYC fight fans to another installment of their Friday Night Fight series, which would be the last of the 2011 season. The nights main event would feature the always exciting Turan “The Tornado” Hasanov in a matchup with Villi Bello. The co-main event of the evening was a Pro ladies matchup between NYC’s Emily Bearden and Orlando, Florida’s Denise Jacobs. All in all another action packed weekend of Muay Thai action in North America, below are the results of both events! Friday Night Fights – 2011 Season Finale! PRO: Turan Hasanov def. Villi Bello by Unanimous Decision Emily Bearden def. Denise ...
- RESULTS – Lion Fight Promotions “Battle in the Desert 4″, Mulkey defends his title, Coke squeaks by Ibrahim, Malaipet gets back on the winning track.
Lion Fight Promotions succeeded in delivering yet another exciting night of Muay Thai action with Saturday night’s “Battle in the Desert 4″. The promotion upgraded from staging its events on the California/Nevada state line in Primm, Nevada by moving it’s exciting event into Las Vegas proper at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. The event presented a cornucopia of elbows, kicks, spinning back fists, superman punches, and flying knees. The action was pretty much non stop from the opening Amateur bout featuring Genesis Bravo and Pixie O’Reilly to the main event title match up between Chaz Mulkey and Simon Chu. In the first pro match up of the evening, Cassie Trost made her professional debut against the Canadian, Las Vegas resident Vivian Leung. Vivian found her rhythm early as she definitely looked the stronger of the two in the clinch and peppered her opponent with well placed knees. The first round was a slower paced feeling out period as usual but as the second round began the fight pretty much turned into the Vivian Leung show as she opened up with powerful punch and kick combinations, as well as some very nasty knees in the clinch. In round 3 Leung landed a big knee to the body that left Trost hurt. As round 4 began, Leung came alive constantly pressuring the backpedaling Trost. Leung looked to end the fight and a flurry of strikes combined with a vicious knee granted her her wish as Trost dropped once again ...
- Muaythai Premiere League “Blood & Steel” – The Hague, Netherlands RESULTS! Levin scores lone KO of the evening, Kitchen & Corbett victorious, Hollenbeck suffers first professional loss.
This past weekend, the fighters that take part in the juggernaut of a promotion that is the Muaythai Premier League, traveled to the land of tulips, wooden shoes, giant wheels of cheese, coffee shops that aren’t really known for their coffee, and big & tall people that can kick a lot of ass! Yes, I’m talking about that wonderful freedom loving nation known as the Netherlands. Every time I hear someone talk about the Netherlands, I am reminded of a skit by comedian and Arrested Development star David Cross. Discussing 9/11, he rebuked the claim that the terrorists hated America because of our “freedom” and argued that they hate us rather for our foreign policy choices over the years. He backed up his claim by adding that, “if the terrorists really hated ‘freedom’ then the Netherlands would have been f$@#ing dust!” Not that I want to get in any sort of political discussion but the man does have a point but more important is the point he makes about how awesome Holland is. I love the Dutch, just as much as I love the Thais, mostly due to both cultures affinity for punching, kicking, kneeing, and elbowing people in the face! But I also love the Dutch because they seem to enjoy all of the finer things in life such as: natural herbal remedies, good cheese, good beer, and of course, one of the world’s favorite pastimes…SOCCER! Yes, soccer! I know where your minds were going so don’t sit there and ...
- Journey Fight Series 8-Man Tournament Finale RESULTS!
It began with 8 of North America’s top Muay Thai talent. Saturday Night in Calgary, Alberta, Canada; the two remaining fighters, both Canadians, put on a very technical and exciting fight to determine who would take home $10,000 CAD (aprox. $9,950 US) and the first ever North American WMC Championship Belt. In the end the judges decided in favor of Siam No. 1′s Matt Embree, who is now the first ever WMC North American Champion! Embree’s opponent, Josh Palmer definitely carried a size advantage into each bout during the entire tournament. Coupling his size with his technical prowess, vicious elbows, and long devastating knees, for many Palmer was the favorite going into the final. Palmer controlled the initial rounds of the contest, however as the fight carried over into the final rounds, Embree began to pick up the pace and find his rhythm. Embree pressed Palmer with a multitude of attacks that scored highly for the Toronto based fighter and had the larger Palmer backpedaling. In the end the judges felt that Matt Embree did what was needed to win the fight and thus awarded him with the unanimous decision. In the other standout fight of the night, Pittsburgh Muay Thai’s Mark Deluca was looking to mix it up once again with Calgary’s own “Nasty” Nate Smandych. These two talented nakmuays had faced off with each other as amateurs with Smandych taking that fight by decision. However, this time around Nate was not looking to allow ...
- Results and Recap of M-One Grand Muay Thai’s “USA vs Thailand” Event – Romie and Schilling look vicious, Sakkedao stops Ross via cut, Rungravee destructive as always
By Jonathan Puu Finally, I made it to the M-1 Grand Muay Thai Championship at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles, California. The venue was very interesting, as the ringside seating was actually worse than the balcony seating, due to the ring being up on a stage. I later was talking to some of the guys who had helped with the production, and they had mentioned that the venue was setup for televised events, and the audience was an afterthought. So, for future events here, get the balcony seating! The first two fights were originally supposed to be from the amateur card, but due to timing schedules for the televised broadcast in Thailand the pro card was bumped up. Rungravee Sasiprapa(THA) vs Andres Martinez(SPA) Round 1 Both fighters are feeling each other out, picking their shots and finding their distance. Rungravee is a southpaw fighter while Andres is an orthodox fighter. Rungravee is testing out his left kick against Andres, while Andres is answering with a right kick of his own, Rungravee is getting off first. Rungravee continues to drill his left leg kick into Andres, while Andres is going for more punch and kick combinations. Andres is trying to get in his knee strikes but is unable to. Rungravee’s strikes are very powerful and accurate, while Andres is busier but is not hitting with as much power. Andres tries a few leg kicks of his own, all being blocked by Rungravee. Andres with some more punch and kick combinations to end the round. Round 2 Andres comes out with some punch ...

This past weekend Muay Thai is Life headed to Tampa, Florida to cover and support the inaugural event organized by KMT Fight Promotions. The promotion is headed up by Tampa Muay Thai, home of pro fighter Alex Berrios and the gym’s owner, head instructor, and also pro fighter, Ray Cole. Ray, Alex, and the entire Tampa Muay Thai crew have long been good friends of Muay Thai is Life but that wasn’t the only reason we decided to show them support. Currently, the state of Muay Thai in Florida is lackluster. Having quite a large Brazilian population and being the home of MMA’s American Top Team, interest in Mixed Martial Arts vastly outweighs the interest in Muay Thai. While other states have numerous traditional and authentic Muay Thai gyms, Florida seems to have a vast array of pseudo-Muay Thai gyms that seem to simply use the term “Muay Thai” to attract students while the true Muay Thai gyms could most likely be counted on one hand. With this event, KMT Promotions looked to continue to put real Muay Thai on the map in Florida. Although all the fights were amateur bouts, gyms such as Bowon Muay Thai, Elite Muay Thai, and Tampa Muay Thai, just to name a few…showcased that Muay Thai is alive and well in Florida. A few of the more advanced fighters were allowed to compete sans shin pads, which is a first for any amateur Muay Thai bouts in Florida. Also fighters were ...
- Muaythai Premier League Round 2 in Italy – NEWS & RESULTS – Upsets, bloody battles, and more!
The second round of the Muaythai Premier League took place yesterday in Padova, Italy. And once again, with the amount of talent the MPL has on its roster, the fights did not fail to impress. Now although we have heard some comments regarding iffy decisions on the judges part during this event, until we can actually see some of the fights and examine them more closely, we will reserve our comments on the subject. We try to be as unbiased as possible at Muay Thai is Life, even when fighters or close friends of ours lose a fight and claim the judges decisions were flawed. With that said, the event definitely brought with it its fair share of surprises and excitement. Perhaps the biggest upset of the night was that of American Ky Hollenbeck’s win over the highly regarded and favored Jordan Watson of the UK. Although we did not see the fight, Hollenbeck dropped Watson in the first round with a spinning back fist and although Watson claims he was on his feet immediately and thus shouldn’t have been given a standing 8 count, the 8 count was given. Hollenbeck’s unorthodox style, which may not be the prettiest display of Muay Thai for some, is effective and has continually brought the American success against some very talented opposition who can’t seem to find their rhythm against his constant onslaught. It seems every fight Hollenbeck has been in as of late, is consistently labeled (even by our site) ...

- Rami Ibrahim discusses his win over Philippe Allaire Landreville – MTL Exclusive Video
Rami Ibrahim just defended his WKA 132 lb. North American Title for the 4th time this weekend. The Philadelphia based Muay Thai fighter has recently been quoted as saying he feels he is ready, at this point in his career, to take on some bigger names in the 132 lbs weight class. During his fight versus Philippe Allaire Landreville, Ibrahim showcased that he is no stranger to fighting using traditional Thai technique as opposed to his sometimes more Dutch kickboxing & boxing centric style. Landreville came in with a lot more experience than Ibrahim but Ibrahim came out on top, once again using his crisp boxing in what was a technical and exciting fight at Take On Productions “September Showdown” in NYC this past weekend (Sept. 9th, 2011). Muay Thai is Life’s Eric Rivera caught up with Ibrahim after the fight to get his take on what took place in the ring and what’s next for him. Check the video below! And for the best in Muay Thai news, media, and more, be sure to check back here at Muay Thai is Life. Also be sure to like our Official Facebook Page and follow us on Twitter!
- Rami Ibrahim defends his WKA title at Take On Productions “September Showdown”
Philadelphia’s Rami “The Arabian Nightmare” Ibrahim defended his WKA 132 lb. North American Pro title for the 4th time tonight at Take On Productions “September Showdown” in New York City. Rami’s opponent was the very tough and very talented Philippe Allaire Landreville out of Canada’s Tristar Gym. In the nights only professional match up both fighters demonstrated beautiful Thai technique and during the first two rounds were involved in what was a very tightly contested war of attrition. For every strike Ibrahim landed, Allaire quickly responded with a strike of his own in order to even things up on the score card. Both fighters went leg kick for leg kick and body kick for body kick during the first two rounds. As the 3rd round came around, Ibrahim’s work rate increased and the talented Philadelphia based fighter began to pull ahead slightly. Ibrahim’s success was his ability to pair his always crisp hands with solid body kicks and knees in the clinch. Towards the end of round 4, Ibrahim cornered his Canadian opponent and opened up with a flurry of punches. During this onslaught of punches, Ibrahim landed a big left hook that floored Landreville and forced the referee to give him a standing 8 count. During Round 5, Landreville, aware that he had to come out strong and make up for the knockdown, kicked up his aggression level and pushed forward. Both fighters really began to throw leather looking to land the big punch or kick ...
- Muay Thai Premier League Results! Buakaw, Corbett, Holzken, Kitchen take home the win, Humby scores huge KO!
The inaugural MPL event has ended and needless to say it was a fantastic night of fights. Not one fight on the entire card lacked excitement and the promotion as whole was beautifully put together. Although the event did take a while to get started and those watching the GFL.tv feed where growing antsy because of sound problems, in the end the event made up for the difficulties in spades. All fighters put on fantastic performances, but perhaps the moments or details that stood out to me most were Valentina Shevchenko’s vicious cross, Filip Verlinden’s overall performance against Tomas Hron, Baxter Humby’s amazing spinning back kick KO of Zidov Akuma, Julie Kitchen’s overall technique, Corbett’s vicious elbows, and last but not least Buakaw’s Muay Thai clinic against Warren Stevelmans. The fighters put together for tonight’s MPL were brought to the U.S. to demonstrate to American audiences the beauty and power of Muay Thai, they delivered. However, perhaps the only disconcerting part of the evening were reports that for such a momentous event, the stands at the Walter Pyramid in Long Beach (where the event took place) were surprisingly empty. One has to wonder if the online pay-per-view buys will help the MPL recoup what they may have lost in ticket sales. Or perhaps the event made the money the promotion expected for a U.S. event. The point is the U.S. Muay Thai Community has to get together and support event such as these any chance they get. ...
- Controversial decision mars an otherwise great night of fights at Battle in the Desert 3 – RESULTS
Battle in the Desert 3 was a stellar event. However, the otherwise incredible night of fights was marred by an absolutely horrendous judges decision at the conclusion of the nights main event. After an action-packed Pro card that included a brutal KO, some nasty cuts, and a technical back and forth, the crowd at Buffalo Bill’s Resort & Casino in Primm, Nevada was geared up for the main event. The final fight of the evening was a face off between Thai legend Sakmongkol Zingano Sitchuchoke and Brazilian Muay Thai superstar Cosmo Alexandre. For many in attendance and those watching on the live stream, this was an exciting main event that promised to showcase one of Thailand’s all time greats against a young world class nakmuay approaching his prime. Many expected a proverbial passing of the torch, as an aging Sakmongkol faced off with one of the rising names in the game. In the first round, Sakmongkol danced around Alexandre and showed moments of brilliance, sweeping the powerful Brazilian to the floor on a few occasions and making Alexandre miss. In Round 2, the tone of the fight was set and it became a clinch battle where Alexandre consistently out muscled the Thai and dumped him to the canvas. Sakmongkol showed moments where he was dangerous, landing a few body kicks, the occasional head kick attempt, and some very nice elbows in Round 4. Alexandre however, landed a big elbow of his own in Round 4 that opened ...
- Saenchai def. Ross; Rungravee, Lindsay, Yamato, and Kim head home with the W! Results!
Unfortunately in the fight game, when the night comes to an end and the locker rooms and arena clear out, only one of the two fighters that walk into the ring goes home a winner. But winning can mean different things to different people. For Charlie Sheen, it can be being high as a kite 24/7 and surrounded by loose women. For Saenchai Sinbimuaythai, it means walking away with the WBC Diamond Belt. And for Kevin Ross, it means walking away with the idea that he fought the best pound for pound Muay Thai fighter on the planet and looked damn good doing it. Let’s get one thing straight, my job at Muay Thai is Life, and what I aim to do here for my readers, is to provide an objective opinion about Muay Thai events around the U.S. and the world. I look to tell you who won and who lost without letting my personal feelings towards a fighter or gym get in the way. I’m friends with a ton of fighters because of either Muay Thai is Life, training, or because at one time or another I have faced them myself across the ring or have shared a locker room with them before a fight. But I don’t ever want to let that get in the way of telling it like it is or giving my opinion about how a fight went down. I give my opinions as a fighter who has been there (in ...
- Thai Fight Extreme Results & Recap: Buakaw, Sudsakorn, Saiyok, and Pinca get the win. Yodsaenklai upset by Yasuhito Shirasu
I have to admit that I wasn’t too impressed with Thai Fight Extreme after their last event in France. And after taking a look at the lineup of fighters that would be facing the Thais during this installment of Thai Fight, I was pretty sure that the Thais were going to wipe the floor with their Japanese counterparts. But sometimes, it’s good to be wrong. Except when doing math. I remember this one time I was in the middle of solving this really long equation and I guess I had forgotten to carry a one, or had forgotten to change a sign, and I was left with scratch paper covered in pencil markings, eraser residue, and a multitude of solutions. I remember that as I became overwhelmed I excused myself from my desk, ran to a corner, started breathing into a paper bag, and began sobbing quietly. Right when I was about to cross the brink into insanity, I felt a hand on my shoulder, and as I looked up, my 3rd grade teacher told me that I could go home early and she would call my parents. Anyway, I digress. The point is that last nights Thai Fight Extreme was pretty good and I was wrong to think that the Japanese fighters wouldn’t stand a chance. After Saiyok completely dismantled Koh Suman with brutal body kicks and left his face looking like he had fallen out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the ...
- Warriors Cup XII Results and Recap – Harrison stops Greskiewicz; Hlavacek, Ibrahim, and Topic get the W.
It’s 1:27 on the East Coast and honestly I would love nothing more than to go straight to bed and get some much needed sleep. But I love all of you Muay Thai crazed lunatics and am pretty much convinced that you cannot find any semblance of peaceful rest until you find out the results of the Warriors Cup XII event. So fear not for I bring you those results as well as the promise of good restful sleep! Warriors Cup XII was an exciting event that started off by showcasing some of New Jersey’s promising amateur talent, facing off against fighters from the neighboring Big Apple. Although many of these fighters were pretty green and new to the Muay Thai game, they showed a ton of talent and put on some really exciting fights. Some amateur fights that stood out to me were the fights between Chantal Perry and Giovanna Scano, Flavio Brita and Justin Corbalis, and The Warriors Cup amateur lightweight title fight between Rodolphe Felix and Junaid Hamid. A lot of these amateurs really demonstrated skill and poise that left me excited about the future of Muay Thai in America. I feel it is important that we recognize the skill and sacrifice of these talented amateurs as they move up through the ranks. Even if they don’t ever venture on and enter the pro ranks, the fact that they entered the ring and fought the good fight and represented Muay Thai is a feat worth ...
- Friday Night Fight Results July 22nd – Berrios stops Balsamico, Fitzsimmons wins 8-Man Tournament
While the heat has been hitting record highs in the Big Apple, it was colder than your exes heart in comparison to the action at Friday Night Fights. The scalding explosive action started with a quick 1st round KO in the first fight of the evening and never let up throughout the remainder of the event. It was a brutal night for many of the fighters on tonight’s card, but those that were on the losing end no doubt walked away with a lesson learned and a new drive to make things right on their next outing. The winners walked away with a spring in their step, a smile, and probably a plan to eat the most fattening and delicious food they can find on a consistent basis for the next 24 hours. Tonight’s card was also host to Friday Night Fight’s original 8-man tournament that featured 8 of North America’s top 155 lb. amateur fighters. Every fighter in the tournament gave everything they had in their respective fights, but with each fight one fighter was sent home while the other stepped further up the ladder until only one was left to claim the title of Friday Night Fight tournament champion. After the devastating KO’s and hard fought battles during the tournament, the last man left standing was Canada’s Josh Fitzsimmons. After a war of attrition with other finalist Troy Sheridan, Fitzsimmons came out in Round 3 and knocked out out Sheridan to claim the title. In ...

- Journey Fight Series III RESULTS – McKinnon outpoints Fisher, Palmer and Embree advance to the all Canada final.
The Semi-Finals of the Journey Fight Series have come to an end and only two fighters stand. Canada’s Josh Palmer advanced to the final after stopping Philadelphia’s Justin Greskiewicz with a hard knee to the body in Rd. 3. In the other semi-final of the night, Canada’s Matt Embree scored a split decision win over U.S. based Thai, Coke Chunawat, in a rematch of their previous meeting that saw Coke take home the split. With this result, the finals of the Journey Fight Series will be an all Canadian affair. The evenings superfight saw Calgary’s own “Shotgun” Sean McKinnon face off with Pittsburgh Muay Thai’s Marcus Fisher. Sean McKinnon, who dropped his pro debut to American nakmuay Ben Case in the last Journey Fight Series, was looking to make his sophomore effort a success against Fisher, who was himself making his pro debut. After five rounds, the Calgary native edged out the game Marcus Fisher to take home the decision win. In the evenings main event, Turkish-German wunderkind Meryem Uslu defeated Canada’s Jessica Gladstone by unanimous decision. Full Results below: Keith Macduff def. - Kem Sitsongpeenong wins Isuzu Tournament, earns Thai Fight spot
Earlier Today…or well Yesterday if you are reading this from Southeast Asia, Kem Sitsongpeenong fought and won his way to the Izuzu Tournament title. Kem’s opponent, Nopparat Keatkhamtorn simply had no answer for Kem as he was repeatedly kept at bay with well-timed teep kicks, thus giving Kem the opportunity of landing punishing body kicks. Kem’s hands also played a factor in the win as he repeatedly threw a lead left hook and low kick combination that consistently found the target. In the 3rd round Kem began opening up with elbows. Halfway through the 3rd Round, Kem landed a beautiful left jabbing elbow that ended the night for Nopparat. As was announced previously, the winner of the Isuzu tournament would receive a spot on the next installment of the popular Thai Fight tournament. In addition to a spot in the tournament, Kem Sitsongpeenong earned himself a fight purse of 1 million baht, which is just shy of $33,000 US dollars. Check out the video of the fight below. The Tournament Final was held at Omnoi Stadium in Bangkok.

- Battle in the Desert 2 RESULTS! Ross stops Deluca, Cosmo outpoints Washington, Mulkey and Hollenbeck win by decision.
Lion Fight Promotions sophomore event did not fail to help bring Full Muay Thai further into the U.S. limelight. An absolutely stacked pro fight card featuring some of the best U.S Muay Thai talent from both the East and West coast was preceded by a solid showing from some very skilled up and coming amateur fighters. Save for what was, in my opinion, two controversial decisions (Anythony Castrejon over Ognjen Topic and Shawn Yarborough over Chris Romulo), the entire show was exciting top to bottom. The Shawn Yarborough vs. Chris Romulo fight was an exciting technical battle between two of the countries top fighters at 165 lbs. Chris Romulo came in to represent the East Coast against Shawn Yarborough in what has become an East Coast vs. West Coast Muay Thai rivalry. Both fighters had their moments during the fight with Romulo looking a bit more crisp than his West Coast counterpart. In the final round Romulo landed a wicked right hand that stunned the Nevada based Yarborough. In the end, Yarborough took home the Split Decision that many thought should have gone to the East Coast’s Chris Romulo. Another one of the evenings highlights was the battle between Chaz Mulkey and Ken Tran. Both fighters exchanged hard kicks throughout the fight, engaging well in the clinch and dropping each other with textbook Muay Thai throws. Chaz Mulkey pulled away during the final rounds, bloodying up his Canadian opponent who still never backed down. Mulkey wins by Unanimous ...
- Results April 29th, 2010 Friday Night Fights NYC!
The Friday Night Fights team has done it again. Offering up yet another action packed night in NYC featuring some of the nation’s top talent. The card featured two exciting events: A rematch between crowd favorite Turan Hasanov and Philadelphia’s own Justin “The Purple People Eater” Greskiewicz. Also on the card, undefeated professional Muay Thai fighters Joe Valtellini and Ben Case would face off to see which of the two would be going home with their first professional defeat. Also on the card, a heavyweight title matchup between Wayne Barrett vs Simon Camaj. Yet again, there was no absence of fireworks during this installment of Friday Night Fights, especially of note was an insane battle between the undefeated Case and the undefeated Valtellini. It was easy to see that neither fighter wanted to go home with a digit in their loss column. Here are the full results of the evening: Stan Mancebo def. - Oktagon “La Sfida” Results (+Videos!) – Petrosyan outpoints Alexandre, Kulebin stops opponent
Once again, another huge event for this great year (so far) in Kickboxing has come and gone. Once again, Giorgio Petrosyan demonstrates that he seems to not know how to stop winning. Which, of course, is a good thing if you are Giorgio Petrosyan and a terrible thing if you are his opponent. Cosmo Alexandre, who many were afraid would not be able to make the 70 kg/155 lb weight class, made it easily. And while Cosmo put on a very nice and exciting fight, he was not able to stop the precision striking of Petrosyan. Once again, Petrosyan adds another quality name to his list of defeated opponents. In the co-main event, Andrei Kulebin stopped Fabio Pinca’s late replacement, Angelo Campoli, when he opened up a nasty cut on the Italian fighters head. The doctor stepped in during round 4 to halt the bout thus giving Kulebin the win, but probably not the win he wanted. Pinca sustained a hand injury during a motorcycle accident, so hopefully the skilled Frenchman recovers soon and we will be able to see this mega bout transpire sometime in the near future. - Mananquil defeats Malaipet, Ross loses by Split – “Battle in the Desert” Results
So it has been a night of huge upsets in the MMA world and the possible end of a legend, but if you want to hear about all that I’m sure you can find a lot of news and info about it elsewhere! Tonight is about Muay Thai!!! First off, in France, the Buakaw vs Youssef Boughanem fight ended early when Boughanem suffered a shoulder injury during the first round of the fight. A disappointing result to what looked like it could have been a great fight. We wish Boughanem a speedy recovery and hope that he can meet Buakaw again in the near future. Stateside, Michael Mananquil defeated Malaipet via unanimous decision at the main event of Lion Fight Promotions’ “Battle in the Desert”. Mananquil who had previously lost to Malaipet via split decision got his revenge over the Thai in this much anticipated rematch. In the co-main event, 2010 Muay Thai Fighter of the Year, Kevin Ross, lost by split decision to Sittisak Por Sirichai of Thailand in a very close contest. - Results from Friday Night Fights 2011 Season Opener on Jan. 15th!
Friday Night Fights once again put on an incredible show this past Friday Jan. 15th in NYC. The event was full of great action, upsets, KO’s, and comeback wins! In the main event Russian champion, Alexander Lavrushin was simply too strong for North American fighter of the Year nominee, Chris Romulo. In Rd 2, Lavrushin floored Romulo twice, once with a right hard straight and the second time with a wicked knee to the head. Romulo, who has no ounce of quit in him, rallied back at the end of the fight, putting his Russian challenger on unsteady legs at one point, but in the end Lavrushin had done enough throughout the fight to take home the unanimous decision victory. In another highlight matchup, UFC veteran and Ultimate Fighter alum, Roli Delgado, proved that one should never take an opponent lightly as he outpointed the young firecracker, Turan “The Tornado” Hasanov, en route to a decision victory. Hasanov was very vocal about his displeasure with having to face Delgado, whom he called “a nobody in Muay Thai“. He wesnt so far as to say that he was not worried at all and thus only trained for one week and did only 5% of the training he usually does for fights. Now, I’m sure Hasanov was only kidding when he made those remarks because no professional fighter would ever take an opponent that lightly (at least I hope not) and with the skills Hasanov has, I doubt he would just choose ...
- Steven Wakeling wins WBC Super Middleweight World Title in Pattaya!
British nakmuay, Steven Wakeling, looked in top form this past Saturday as he fought 2010 WBC Super Middleweight World Champion Jaochalam in Pattaya, Thailand. Wakeling, who won the WBC Middleweight World title in 2006, looked to be slightly ahead of the Thai during most of the fight. In Rd. 4, Wakeling, who was training out of Sitsonpeenong for this fight, dropped his Thai opponent with a punch and elbow combination that ended with knees to the body and head of Jaochalam. After the referee gave Jaochalam a standing 8 count, Wakeling pounced on his already weakened opponent and delivered another combination that ended with knees to his opponents body and dropped him for good. Also on the card was a 4-man tournament featuring fighters from around the world, with Andi Rogner of Germany walking away with the tournament win.

Aerts is hurt, and Aerts is down. Unbelievable. He just unleashed the most ferocious flurry of blows to Aerts and crushed him instantly. Alistair Overeem def. Peter Aerts via knockout. Super Fight: Sergei Kharitonov vs. Singh Jaideep: Round 1: Kharitonov stalks Jaideep into the corner early, throws a three punch combo, but blocked by Jaideep. Jaideep is starting to work the leg kicks, but Kharitonov jabs and lands a nice body shot. Jaideep trying to land a head kick, but Sergei blocks. Referee separates, and back to action. Sergei comes forward, throws overhand, and Jaideep counters. Nothing significant yet, but Kharitonov is working the body. Jaideep lands a stiff counter, and Sergei is dazed. Jaideep is now trying ...

- The Rewind vol. 2 – Post-Turkey Day Muay Thai News!
So I hope everyone had their fill of holiday delights during the Thanksgiving festivities, because I know I did! I stuffed myself with more holiday fare than Kristy Alley at an all you can eat buffet. So far I calculate total weight gain to be in the realm of 15 pounds of turkey, fried chicken, macaroni & cheese, mashed potatoes and so on. As enjoyable as it was, I am now faced with the horrible realization that I have 15 extra pounds to cut for an upcoming fight in February. So as beautiful as the supposed story of Pilgrims breaking bread with Squanto and the Patuxet tribe is, all I have to say is damn you Thanksgiving for my distended belly and heartburn! But enough about me and eating until hating myself because this past week was full of quality Muay Thai events all over the world. From the UK to Dubai, some of the world’s best nakmuays were kicking, punching, kneeing, and elbowing their way to some big wins during some big fights. First event on the list was the War On The Shore 3 event held at the Dusit Thani hotel in Dubai last week. The event was part of the Thailand vs Challengers series created by Tolis Makris of Elite Boxing Promotions in Thailand. This event was billed as a Thailand vs Middle East event with 3 Middle Eastern fighters taking on fighters from Thailand. However, due to injury, Vashit Roshani of Iran was not able ...
- Buakaw is new S-Cup Champion, Souwer upset in Semi-Final
Via Head Kick Legend MMA fighter Toby Imada, a late replacement for Charles Krazy Horse Bennett, earned a split decision victory over Andy Souwer in the semi-finals to knock the defending champion and world’s #2 fighter out of S-Cup competition and claim a spot in the finals. On the other side of the bracket, Buakaw took a unanimous decision win over Henri van Opstal, setting up an unlikely Buakaw v. Imada final. In the finals, Buakaw used leg kicks to chop down the Bellator fighter, earning a 2nd round TKO and claiming the title of 2010 S-Cup champion. This win has to be satisfying for Buakaw, who left K-1 MAX in frustration earlier this year, and has spent 2010 taking a limited number of smaller fights while questions swirled about his future. With this win, he reclaims his spot as one of the top 2 fighters in the world, and shows that there is still more left in the tank of this legend. As for Souwer, this is obviously a serious shock for the multiple time MAX and S-Cup champion. A nearly flawless fighter, Souwer is the kind of fighter who just doesn’t lose to opponents not at the very top of the game. Outside of the earliest part of his career, he only has one loss to a significantly lower ranked opponent – a 2006 loss to Kenichi Ogata, also at the S-Cup. Imada is almost exclusively an MMA fighter. He’s been competing in Bellator as of late, where he is best known for his spectacular flying ...

- The Rewind! A recap of all of the latest Muay Thai news from around the world. First Edition.
So its been a crazy weekend. Having just come back from the MMA World Expo in NYC where I was asked to help out the great folks from Namman Muay, I realized I had gone a couple of days without letting Muay Thai fans know about some of the big stories coming out of the global Muay Thai scene. So I decided to put together the first edition of a new series called “The Rewind”, which is pretty much going to be a lightening round-type of an article that recaps the latest news, results, and event updates from around the world. Also we have decided to add a couple of new article series to the MTL website. One such series will be the “Product Spotlight” series, which will review Muay Thai related products that we have tested and recommend you get your hands on. Of course, as you can already tell, the first product in our spotlight was none other than the now ubiquitous (at least within the Muay Thai community) Namman Muay. Take a look at our article and also check out the promo that we (Erive Productions and Luka Photography & Design)developed for Namman Muay. So without further ado, here are a couple of the top stories from the Muay Thai world. - This weekend, Bad Company Gym’s own Jordan Watson will face off against Shinya Ishige for the ISKA Super-Welterweight Muay Thai title at the Doug Ellis Center in the UK. Check our ...

- Aikpracha Meenayotin wins, keeps Toyota Vigo Tournamnet title in Thailand

The tournament included 7 other fighters from around the world, including Cyrus Washington from the U.S. Vahid Rossani defeated Cyrus Washington in the first stage of the tournament, sending the American home early. In the semi-final Rossani faced off with Don Madge of South Africa, who looked to be the strongest fighter in the event other than Meenayotin from Thailand. Don Madge, was outpointing Rossani and on his way to the finals when he suffered a nasty knee injury when defending a leg kick from Rossani. In the finals, Aikpracha Meenayotin, who had defeated Antuan Siangboxing of France in the semi-finals, outpointed Vahid Rossini to win the Toyota Vigo Tournament and thus keep the title at home in the Kingdom of Thailand.
- Results of Thai Fight Isuzu Tournament – Stage 2, Liam Harrison out despite KO win.
I woke up early this morning to catch the live feed from the Thai Fight Isuzu Tournament and realized that some way, some how, my amazing math skills had once again duped me into thinking the fights were much later than they really were. So by the time I woke up, powered up my laptop, threw on my favorite t-shirt (which happens to be a vintage shirt emblazoned with a Mr. Bubbles cartoon), and served myself up a bowl of Cap’n Crunch Berries, the fights had already concluded. I subsequently checked my e-mail and low and behold a friend of mine, who also helps me keep up to date with Muay Thai happenings worldwide, had sent me the results. A sports journalists nightmare fulfilled; I had missed the big event. As promised, I am still delivering all of you the results of the event. Although, a little later than usual, because well, after flogging myself repeatedly like the weird albino monk in The Da Vinci Code after this mornings transgression, I didn’t feel like writing much. Then add to that a brutal Muay Thai training session in the evening…I just didn’t know if I could do it. But alas here are the results! Thai Fight Stage 2 Results: Fabio Pinca (France) def. - John Wayne Parr defeats Yodsanklai!!!
I was planning on doing a short write up before the Payback 2 event, but as sometimes happens with life, circumstances didn’t allow me to get around to it. So I’m going to sum it up as quickly as I can. “John” Wayne Parr is the man. Any fighter that shares a name with “The Duke”, has to be worthy of holding such a title. But if there is one man that is worthy of it, its John Wayne Parr. I for one have always been a fan of J-Dubya. He’s always had the heart of a champion. No matter the opponent, the venue, or the circumstance, John Wayne Parr always puts on a hell of a fight. In victory and in defeat he is as classy as they come. And even when he suffered back to back losses and seemingly looked like being in a deep rut at times, he trained hard, came back, and would put on a performance that would make everyone realize why he is considered one of the best Muay Thai fighters in the world today. When Florida Sanshou & Muay Thai, Inc., was still in its infancy, before our Dynasty Collective clothing line and Erive Productions, I made a highlight for JWP (which you can see in our Video Gallery). I shot him an e-mail and asked him if he would mind doing a short interview for our website, and low and behold I received an answer back ...
