MTiL Muay Talk Phone Interview – Simon Marcus Part Deux
Muay Talk is a series of phone interviews we began at Muay Thai is Life to speak with fighters we might not always be able to reach out to and interview in person. We feel that these phone interviews give you, as fans, an opportunity to learn more about the fighters you follow or look up to and get a small glimpse into their personality and their mind. Sometimes when we interview fighters via Q&A in text-format you don’t get to hear the fighters voice and understand who they are outside the ring and after the final bell has rung. In this installment of Muay Talk we once again catch-up with hard hitting Canadian Muay Thai fighter Simon Marcus to discuss the much talked about fallout following his win over Joe Schilling, an eventual rematch, his upcoming fight with Kaoklai, and his quest to become World Champion. Check out the video/phone interview below!

Running with Lions – Artem Levin vs. Simon Marcus?
As many of us in the North American Muay Thai community know, the fallout from the highly anticipated Joe Schilling vs. Simon Marcus match up at Battle in the Desert 5 has not been pretty. Fans of both parties have been engaged in an all out war of words to protect the integrity of their fighters reputation. Some have said Simon Marcus’ Muay Thai takedown that eventually set Schilling up for the KO that would end his night, was illegal, while others contend that it was a completely legitimate Muay Thai technique. Some of the sports biggest stars have come out defending the technique, stating that while the technique may have appeared illegal it was in fact legitimate or simply fell into a gray area in the sport where sometimes borderline illegal techniques are allowed to slide. However, the consensus among many of the sports finest is that the sport of Muay Thai is about ultimately inflicting damage on your opponent. And when in a fight, anything, even an unfortunate incident such as getting hurt from a fall can ultimately cost you your purse and also your interim title.

Muaythai Premiere League “Blood & Steel” – The Hague, Netherlands RESULTS! Levin scores lone KO of the evening, Kitchen & Corbett victorious, Hollenbeck suffers first professional loss.
This past weekend, the fighters that take part in the juggernaut of a promotion that is the Muaythai Premier League, traveled to the land of tulips, wooden shoes, giant wheels of cheese, coffee shops that aren’t really known for their coffee, and big & tall people that can kick a lot of ass! Yes, I’m talking about that wonderful freedom loving nation known as the Netherlands. Every time I hear someone talk about the Netherlands, I am reminded of a skit by comedian and Arrested Development star David Cross. Discussing 9/11, he rebuked the claim that the terrorists hated America because of our “freedom” and argued that they hate us rather for our foreign policy choices over the years. He backed up his claim by adding that, “if the terrorists really hated ‘freedom’ then the Netherlands would have been f$@#ing dust!” Not that I want to get in any sort of political discussion but the man does have a point but more important is the point he makes about how awesome Holland is. I love the Dutch, just as much as I love the Thais, mostly due to both cultures affinity for punching, kicking, kneeing, and elbowing people in the face! But I also love the Dutch because they seem to enjoy all of the finer things in life such as: natural herbal remedies, good cheese, good beer, and of course, one of the world’s favorite pastimes…SOCCER! Yes, soccer! I know where your minds were going so don’t sit there … Continue reading
Muay Thai Premier League Results! Buakaw, Corbett, Holzken, Kitchen take home the win, Humby scores huge KO!
The inaugural MPL event has ended and needless to say it was a fantastic night of fights. Not one fight on the entire card lacked excitement and the promotion as whole was beautifully put together. Although the event did take a while to get started and those watching the GFL.tv feed where growing antsy because of sound problems, in the end the event made up for the difficulties in spades. All fighters put on fantastic performances, but perhaps the moments or details that stood out to me most were Valentina Shevchenko’s vicious cross, Filip Verlinden’s overall performance against Tomas Hron, Baxter Humby’s amazing spinning back kick KO of Zidov Akuma, Julie Kitchen’s overall technique, Corbett’s vicious elbows, and last but not least Buakaw’s Muay Thai clinic against Warren Stevelmans. The fighters put together for tonight’s MPL were brought to the U.S. to demonstrate to American audiences the beauty and power of Muay Thai, they delivered. However, perhaps the only disconcerting part of the evening were reports that for such a momentous event, the stands at the Walter Pyramid in Long Beach (where the event took place) were surprisingly empty. One has to wonder if the online pay-per-view buys will help the MPL recoup what they may have lost in ticket sales. Or perhaps the event made the money the promotion expected for a U.S. event. The point is the U.S. Muay Thai Community has to get together and support event such as these any chance they get. The success and … Continue reading
