K-1/Dutch Kickboxing Weekend: Glory World Series, Slamm!, and K-1 Rising…where will you be?!

So pardon the cheesy Dutch centric header graphic but honestly I had it lying around in my personal library of utterly pointless designs. And given this weekends back to back K-1 style/Dutch Kickboxing events, it was apropos. Needless to say, Peter Aerts will not be fighting this weekend and I’m pretty sure he won’t be kicking any Dutch women wearing traditional garb in the head,…well at least not that I am aware of. Also, while not all of this weekend’s kickboxing festivities are taking place in Holland, they do feature some of the world’s best kickboxers including many from…you guessed it…Holland. The excitement kicks off tomorrow in Stockholm, Sweden as Glory presents their Glory World Series 16-man Elimination Tournament. Here is a list of the incredible face-melting match-ups that will be on the Glory World series card: Glory 16-Man Tournament – May 26th – Stockholm, Sweden 70kg tournament fights: Giorgio Petrosyan (Italy) vs Fabio Pinca (France) Max Vorovski (Estonia) vs Sanny Dahlbeck (Sweden) Robin van Roosmalen (Netherlands) vs Dzhabar Askerov (Russia) Ky Hollenback (USA) vs Michael Corley (USA) Yoshihiro Sato (Japan) vs Shemsi Beqiri (Switserland) Dennis Schneidmiller (Germany) vs Qi Chenglong (China) Kem Sitsongpeenong (Thailand) vs Cosmo Alexandre (Brasil) Albert Kraus (Netherlands) vs Mohamed El Mir (Denmark) Super Fights: Nieky Holzken vs Alex Harris (Sweden) Semmy Schilt (Netherlands) vs Errol Zimmerman (Curacao) Luckily for all of you combat hungry fight fans, a live internet stream for the Glory World Series event will be available. K-1 Rising – The kickboxing juggernaut’s return to glory begins in Spain. Full lineup announced!

For months now, we have had heard rumors regarding the return of K-1. Then there came the news that K-1 and current kickboxing powerhouse It’s Showtime struck a deal whereby both promotions would join forces in order to put together some of the biggest kickboxing bouts since the K-1′s glory days in Japan. Finally, we heard rumors of a show sometime later this year as well as a press release stating that K-1 is looking to make its way stateside during the 2012-2013 season to help further promote kickboxing here in the United States. Now, whether or not all of these statements hold up in the long run remains to be seen but what we do know now is that kickboxing heavyweight Badr Hari has signed a deal with K-1 and will return to the kickboxing ring in addition to continuing his quest for boxing glory. In addition to the news regarding Badr Hari, K-1 has now released the full lineup of K-1 Rising, their heralded comeback event which will be held on May 27th in Madrid, Spain. The event will feature the return of the K-1 MAX 70kg/154 lb. Final 16 as well as a few heavyweight super fights. Check out the match ups below.

K-1 Heavyweight Badr Hari turns himself in to Dutch authorities

Badr Hari is probably one of the scariest heavyweight kickboxers on the planet. While he is a big guy, the fear I have for Badr Hari is mostly due to his skill and his seemingly perpetually pissed off temper. I have rarely ever caught a glimpse of Badr Hari smiling. If he isn’t flipping someone the bird, stomping on someone’s head, or kneeing a downed opponent in the face, he is probably mean mugging the Starbucks barista or simply looking like he is about to dig a 5 inch shank in your side. Now, I don’t know Badr Hari myself, so I’m just talking about what he looks like. He may in fact be a very nice guy that enjoys long walks on the beach and sipping wine by the fireplace. Maybe on his downtime he likes to bake quiche for the elderly or read Dr. Seuss to 2nd graders, but part of his appeal as a fighter has always been that he just looks like the type of guy that after beating you senseless would probably follow you home and burn your house down. So, it was actually no surprise to hear that Badr Hari was wanted by Dutch authorities in connection with the aggravated assault of a bouncer at a nightclub in Holland sometime in February. Now according to Hari he had nothing to do with the assault and the doorman corroborated his statement, saying that Hari had nothing to do with the assault and that he (the … Continue reading
