East Coast Muay Thai Mania! – Friday Night Fights 09/28 and Warriors Cup XV 09/29

It can’t be denied. Muay Thai is definitely making some huge strides in America. And while there is still much room left to grow for the sport, America’s left and right coasts are the definitive hotbeds for Muay Thai action in the United States. This weekend, the action takes place on the east coast as Friday Night Fights presents the 4th installment of their annual 8-man tournament. The 8-man tournament has been a breeding ground for some of the east coast’s top Muay Thai talent as pros such as Troy Sheridan, Marcus Fisher, Liam Tarrant, Ognjen Topic, Turan Hasanov, and many more have let fists fly as part of this tournament in the past. Tonight (09/28) in NYC, 8 of the countries top amateurs will once again face off in the ring and one talented fighter will battle his way through 3 opponents to become this years FNF 8-man tournament champion. And if the tournament weren’t enough, tonight’s FNF event will feature a pro main event bout between Tony Manoharan and Mohammed Lemjerdine! Below are the names of the fighters scheduled to take part in tonight’s 8-man tournament: Geoffrey Then (Danbury, Connecticut) Daniel McDonald (Huntington Beach, California) Benson Virtucio (Toronto, Ontario, Canada) Cody Moberly (Wichita, Kansas) Anton Potecki (Cambridge, Ontario, Canada) Josh Wyles (Kernersville, North Carolina) Joe Cox (St. Louis, Missouri) Eric Luna (San Jose, California) ————————————————- If one night of face blistering Muay Thai action isn’t enough for you, then Christian Tran and his Warrior’s Cup team have provided … Continue reading

Slamm announces their “Slamm VII: Holland vs. Thailand” Lineup!

By now you should already know that I am a huge fan of Dutch Kickboxing and pretty much anything coming out of the Netherlands, including but not limited to pannekoeken, which is the Dutch variation of Pancakes. They are so incredibly delicious that the Beastie Boys even referenced them in their song, “Super Disco Breakin” with the line, “When I am in Holland, I eat the pannekoeken”. Other things that I love about Holland are wooden shoes, tulips, windmills, the Edam and Gouda variety of cheeses which come from the Dutch cities of the same name, their local HERBS and spices, and of course their propensity and talent to dish out pretty brutal beat downs on any and all potential opponents that call their Muay Thai and Kickboxing prowess into question. With that said, I’m really excited to announce the “Nederland vs. Thailand” Lineup for the upcoming Slamm show scheduled for May 27th in Amsterdam. Slamm has definitely always been one of my favorite promotions because of the fact that they always look to have the best fighters from Holland and Thailand square off, thereby having the two top Muay Thai nations face off against each other in a battle of national pride but with the respect the sport deserves. When Slamm stopped putting on shows a few years back, I feared the worst…I covered my room in old Slamm posters, bought myself a 6 pack of Amstel Light (Light because I’m trying to watch the pounds), and played “We … Continue reading

Take On Productions announces Sheldon Gaines vs. Justin Greskiewicz for Oct. 22nd Co-main Event

Take On Productions has just announced that the co-main event of its first Full Muay Thai rules event, which takes place Oct. 22nd at the Bally’s Resort & Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey, will be between California’s Sheldon Gaines and Philadelphia’s Justin Greskiewicz. Justin who will be facing Turan Hasanov on September 23rd at Friday Night Fights before his bout with Gaines, is coming off a loss against the UK’s Liam Harrison. His rubber match with Hasanov (both fighters have one win a piece) will serve to be Greskiewicz’ chance to get back on the winning track and look to continue the momentum going into the fight with Gaines. Sheldon Gaines is coming off a great win over Borzoo Honargohar at Stand Up Promotions’ “Krause vs. Oblonsky” event, where he showcased not only huge improvement but that he’s definitely hungry. Oh, and he also showcased he can get a lot of air when he wants to land a jumping head kick (just see the picture above taken by our own Galen Okazaki). Take On Productions first Full Thai Rules event is starting to shape up and they are definitely putting together some very interesting fights featuring some great names in U.S. Muay Thai.
