K-1 Rising – The kickboxing juggernaut’s return to glory begins in Spain. Full lineup announced!
For months now, we have had heard rumors regarding the return of K-1. Then there came the news that K-1 and current kickboxing powerhouse It’s Showtime struck a deal whereby both promotions would join forces in order to put together some of the biggest kickboxing bouts since the K-1′s glory days in Japan. Finally, we heard rumors of a show sometime later this year as well as a press release stating that K-1 is looking to make its way stateside during the 2012-2013 season to help further promote kickboxing here in the United States. Now, whether or not all of these statements hold up in the long run remains to be seen but what we do know now is that kickboxing heavyweight Badr Hari has signed a deal with K-1 and will return to the kickboxing ring in addition to continuing his quest for boxing glory. In addition to the news regarding Badr Hari, K-1 has now released the full lineup of K-1 Rising, their heralded comeback event which will be held on May 27th in Madrid, Spain. The event will feature the return of the K-1 MAX 70kg/154 lb. Final 16 as well as a few heavyweight super fights. Check out the match ups below.
Giorgio “The Doctor” Petrosyan returns to the ring at Its Showtime Tenerife!
As you all should know by know, I am a huge Kickboxing fan. Well, obviously I’m a huge fan of any sport in which two people hit each other in the face and kick each other in the head. I’m a simple man with simple tastes and I find that Kickboxing and Muay Thai satisfy those simple needs. It’s a simple sport to understand yet contains very elegant and complex underlying techniques that take years of practice and/or study for anyone to truly appreciate. Giorgio Petrosyan is simply one of those fighters that understands all of this sport’s complexities and executes all of its techniques with absolute perfection. Petrosyan is so good at what he does that he makes all Kickboxing techniques seem absolutely effortless. He systematically breaks fighters down, yet looks like he has barely broken a sweat while doing so. In Muay Thai, fighters like Buakaw Por Pramuk and Saenchai Sinbimuaythai come to mind as they are two of many fighters that make Thai boxing look much to easy. Subsequently, they also make many of the seasoned fighters who face them look like novices. In the world of Kickboxing (K-1, Its Showtime, Dutch Kickboxing) Giorgio Petrosyan is their equivalent. The only kink in Petrosyan’s armor, seems to be his ability to break his own hand on everyone of his opponent’s head and/or faces. Muay Thai Worldwide – It’s Showtime Fast and Furious 8-man tournament set
The highly anticipated September 25th It’s Showtime “Fast & Furious” event has finalized the lineup for it’s 70 kg 8-man tournament and superfights. The event has undergone a few changes since being announced. It was initially scheduled to be the stage for an anticipated match up between Dutch-Moroccan heavyweight sensation Badr Hari and Romanian star Daniel Ghita, however the bout fell through. Also, 2-time K-1 MAX champion Giorgio Petrosyan was set to be a part of the 70 kg 8-man tournament, however the Italian-Armenian’s nagging hand injury once again lead to him having to drop out of an upcoming fight. He has since been replaced by Dutch wunderkind Robin Van Roosemalen. The Fight Network Signs Multi-Year Deal with ‘It’s Showtime’
BREAKING NEWS FROM THEFIGHTNETWORK.COM – “March 15, 2011, Toronto – The Fight Network announced today that is has acquired the multi-year English-language broadcast rights for IT’S SHOWTIME to air up to 10 events per year live. Five event dates are already confirmed for 2011 with five more cards across Europe to be announced. Fight Network will air IT’S SHOWTIME events LIVE and on tape delay in their entirety.
