Mananquil defeats Malaipet, Ross loses by Split – “Battle in the Desert” Results

So it has been a night of huge upsets in the MMA world and the possible end of a legend, but if you want to hear about all that I’m sure you can find a lot of news and info about it elsewhere! Tonight is about Muay Thai!!! First off, in France, the Buakaw vs Youssef Boughanem fight ended early when Boughanem suffered a shoulder injury during the first round of the fight. A disappointing result to what looked like it could have been a great fight. We wish Boughanem a speedy recovery and hope that he can meet Buakaw again in the near future. Stateside, Michael Mananquil defeated Malaipet via unanimous decision at the main event of Lion Fight Promotions’ “Battle in the Desert”. Mananquil who had previously lost to Malaipet via split decision got his revenge over the Thai in this much anticipated rematch. In the co-main event, 2010 Muay Thai Fighter of the Year, Kevin Ross, lost by split decision to Sittisak Por Sirichai of Thailand in a very close contest. Action-Packed Muay Thai Saturday! – Buakaw vs. Boughanem, Malaipet vs. Mananquil

The fight world is abuzz today as both the MMA and Muay Thai scene are offering up not one, not two, but three great events featuring top talents from both sports. Now, because we are not an MMA site we will leave aside the much touted fight between Fedor Emelianenko and Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva in favor of the two big Muay Thai match ups that are taking place today. Overseas, Muay Thai superstar Buakaw Por. Pramuk steps back into the ring against Youssef Boughanem of Belgium. Boughanem is coming off a very solid showing at last years Thai Fight tournament in Bangkok. The 20-year old Boughanem made it to the finals of the Thai Fight tournament where he lost to the always impressive Fabio Pinca of France. Buakaw is also coming off a very strong showing at this years Shootboxing S-Cup where he came away with the Shootboxing World Championship Title. Although Buakaw is a huge step up in competition for the young Boughanem, I’m confident the young Belgian will give Buakaw a good enough fight to make it a very entertaining bout. And needless to say it is always a pleasure to see Buakaw fight. Here is an interview (in French) with Buakaw about tonight’s event (Sorry, I don’t speak French and can’t translate, but I’m sure what he talks about is pretty awesome) BUAKAW POR PRAMUK en France en FévrierUploaded by PARIS_FIGHT. – Discover the latest sports and extreme videos.
