Results from Friday Night Fights 2011 Season Opener on Jan. 15th!
Friday Night Fights once again put on an incredible show this past Friday Jan. 15th in NYC. The event was full of great action, upsets, KO’s, and comeback wins! In the main event Russian champion, Alexander Lavrushin was simply too strong for North American fighter of the Year nominee, Chris Romulo. In Rd 2, Lavrushin floored Romulo twice, once with a right hard straight and the second time with a wicked knee to the head. Romulo, who has no ounce of quit in him, rallied back at the end of the fight, putting his Russian challenger on unsteady legs at one point, but in the end Lavrushin had done enough throughout the fight to take home the unanimous decision victory. In another highlight matchup, UFC veteran and Ultimate Fighter alum, Roli Delgado, proved that one should never take an opponent lightly as he outpointed the young firecracker, Turan “The Tornado” Hasanov, en route to a decision victory. Hasanov was very vocal about his displeasure with having to face Delgado, whom he called “a nobody in Muay Thai“. He wesnt so far as to say that he was not worried at all and thus only trained for one week and did only 5% of the training he usually does for fights. The 2011 Muay Thai season opens with a bang: Friday Night Fights in NYC!
The holiday season has come and gone and all we are left with now are the mounting credit card bills and expanding waistline. But now it’s time to shake yourself out of that food coma, throw away the brick-like fruitcake, re-gift those terrible gifts you received from your in-laws, and get ready for some Muay Thai action! Friday Night Fights NYC, New York City’s longest running fight promotion is kick-starting the 2011 Muay Thai season with an epic card, featuring some of the nations top Muay Thai talent. So if you are in NYC on January 15th, head on over to the Hall at St. Paul’s at 60th Street and 9th Avenue, and release all of the frustration from the work week woes by cheering for some top class athletes as they unleash the fury of Muay Thai on one another for your enjoyment! On the card, 2 of our good friends from Pittsburgh Muay Thai, Mark DeLuca and Marcus Fisher, look to make The ‘Burgh proud as they face off against two of NYC’s toughest, Kevin Molina and King Opaku respectively! Also on the card: the Muay Thai wrecking machine from the Caucuses, Turan Hasanov takes on UFC veteran Roli Delgado; Jessie Cronier of Canada takes on NYC’s Pascal Jean-Michel; Eric “The Hooligan” Utsch makes his return to the ring; and Ashley Nichols takes on Alexis Asher in a female flyweight bout!
