Lion Fight Promotions, Pro Muay Thai’s newest fight promotion, is back with their second “Battle in the Desert” event adequately titled…well, “Battle in the Desert 2″. After Chaz Mulkey made a few statements about the credibility of Muay Thai on the East Coast and “invited” some of the regions fighters to step up and represent their coast, it seems Lion Fight smelled the potential for a stellar unofficial “East Coast vs West Coast” event and jumped on it. The main event and one of the 3 unofficial “East Coast vs West Coast” bouts of the evening, pits 2010 Muay Thai Fighter of the Year and Las Vegas’ own Kevin Ross against Mark Deluca of Pittsburgh. This fight has the potential to be a firecracker. Chaz Mulkey’s comments about the East Coast focused on the fact that fighters in New York rarely fight with elbows and thus, in Mulkey’s opinion, don’t practice TRUE Muay Thai. However, Mark Deluca, clearly doesn’t fall into that group since the majority of Deluca’s fights have been Full Muay Thai Rules. Deluca is far more comfortable and effective fighting Full Muay Thai rules than the K-1 style he has to sometimes compete in when fighting in the Big Apple. Both fighters are coming off decision losses and are looking to get back on the winning track.
